MEET THE OUT OF SCHOOL ACADEMY TEAM
Toadhall Montessori Out of School Academy is led, managed and delivered, by a highly motivated and very experienced team of staff who are qualified in the Montessori Approach, Playwork, Learning in the Outdoors and the New Curriculum for Wales.
Mr Jon Clayton, - Out of School Academy Senior Team Leader
-known as Mr Jon to the children, has gained his BA Honours First Degree in Outdoor Education and Environmental Science and has many additional qualifications, such as:-Winter and Summer Mountain Leader, Rock Climbing, Orienteering, Kayaking, Bush Craft, Caving, Forest School Leader and Coastal School Leader. Mr Jon has also gained his Level 3 qualification in Playwork.
Mr Jon has also worked with children and young people, with many different abilities and needs, in a variety of settings in both Wales and Scotland, including outdoor learning centres in Aviemore, Scotland, for Edinburgh Education Authority. During his time in these roles, Mr Jon has developed many educational, outdoor learning programmes, which focus upon the children and young people having lots of FUN, whilst developing and learning many new skills that will stay with them for LIFE!
Mr Jon is responsible for all the risk assessments and technical aspects of the outdoor activity programmes.
Mrs Jess Clayton – Out of School Academy Senior Team Leader
-known as Miss Jess to the children, has gained her BA Honours First Degree in Sports Sciences and has also gained additional qualifications in coaching skills for Football and Cricket, along with many other ball games and sports. Miss Jess has also represented Scotland, playing cricket and is currently playing for the Women’s reserve team for Wales! She is also a qualified instructor in Mountain Biking, Canoeing and Zip Wire activities. Miss Jess has also gained her Level 3 qualification in Playwork.
Miss Jess has a wealth of experience working with children and young people of all abilities, including those with additional learning needs. Miss Jess is also a specialist in developing ‘team games’, to develop every child’s learning and skills. She has worked in outdoor learning centres in both Wales and Scotland, creating amazing educational activity programmes that are stimulating, action packed and lots of FUN!
Miss Jess is also responsible for all of the administration and booking procedures.
Miss Jordan – Assistant Play Leader
Miss Jordan joined the Out of School Academy team in January 2021. She has gained her BA Hons Degree in Arts Management, along with a Cache Level 2 award in Support Work in Schools and Colleges. She is undertaking her Level 3 Apprenticeship in Playwork. Miss Jordan supports Jon and Jess in the Out of School Academy.
Miss Jordan also works within the Nursery and Out of School settings as ‘Artist in Residence’ and creates an exciting programme of activities to enrich and enhance every child’s ‘expressive arts ‘which includes art appreciation of various genres,2D and 3D art projects using a variety of mediums and techniques, dance, drama and music.
